SURGICAL VIDEOS

Our surgeries are electronic. For this reason, we have video documentaries of each surgery we do. Patients can have copies of their videos for their own records. We do not publish these videos except for the purpose of education and unless they are anonymous.

Laser Surgery for Stones

This is also called laser lithotripsy. The surgery is minimally invasive and does not require opening up the body. An endoscope called a ureterorenoscope is passed into the kidney. A laser fibre, passed through the endoscope, transmits laser energy which breaks the stones. The procedure is done under anaesthesia. Patient does not feel pain or discomfort. After surgery, patient can go home same day or next.

HoLEP: Bloodless Prostate Surgery

This is the most effective way of taking out the prostate if it is obstructing urine flow or causing damage to the kidneys. Patient can go home same or next day. HoLEP is the most common surgery done at Kelina Hospital.

PCNL & Swiss Lithoclast Master for Kidney Stones

Sometimes you need multiple entry points. Not all kidney stones can be taken out through a single access point. Open surgery is no longer a routine today, even for huge stones. While Retrograde Intra-renal Surgery (RIRS) is suitable for small stones, for kidneys filled with large stones, RIRS will not suffice. PCNL using the Swiss Lithoclast Master and three (3) entry points was more useful in this case. It is important to note: The kidney was so filled with stones that it was unnecessary to give contrast before a puncture.

Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS)

RIRS is an endoscopic procedure for kidney surgery. It can be combined with laser lithotripsy to take out kidney stones without any wound on the body. Patients can go home same or next day. Kidney stones are formed from precipitation of minerals and salts that are excreted through the kidneys. They cause excruciating pain when they pass through the urinary tract. When they fail to pass, they damage the kidneys.

Laser lithotripsy. It took two hours to disimpact the stone.
